Permits And Preceptorships
Graduate Permit supervision
- Graduate nurse and graduate practical nurses must be supervised by a registered nurse (16.12.2.10. NMAC)
- Nurse practitioner and graduate clinical nurse specialists must be supervised by a physician, CNP or CNS (16.12.2.13. & 16.12.2.15.C.(1)(a) NMAC)
- Nurse anesthetists must be supervised by a physician, osteopathic physician, dentist or podiatrist (16.12.2.14. C.(3) NMAC)
Prescriptive Authority, Expansion of Scope of Practice, or Recertification Preceptorship supervision
- Certified nurse practitioners must be supervised by a physician, CNP or CNS (16.12.2.13.K.(3) & 16.12.2.13.N.(5)(a)(i) NMAC)
- Clinical nurse specialists must be supervised by a physician, CNP or CNS (16.12.2.14.J.(3) & 16.12.2.15. NMAC)
- Nurse practitioner and graduate clinical nurse specialists must be supervised by a physician, CNP or CNS (16.12.2.13.N.(5)(a)(i) NMAC and 16.12.2.15.L.(5)(a)(i) NMAC)
- CRNAs must be supervised by a licensed CRNA or physician (16.12.2.14.M.(5)(a)(i) NMAC) (CRNAs are not eligible for an expansion of scope of practice or recertification preceptorships).
The nurse/practical nurse graduate permit intent to hire letter must:
- Be on agency letterhead
- Indicate the name of the specific NM employer
- Indicate the name and license number of the Registered Nurse who is responsible for assuring direct supervision of the graduate permit holder
The advanced practice nurse graduate permit intent to hire letter must:
- Be on agency letterhead
- Indicate the name of the specific NM employer
- Indicate the name(s) and license number(s) of the physician, CNP, or CNS, or CRNA who is responsible for assuring direct supervision of the graduate permit holder to:
  - Practice and/or
  - Prescribe
The advanced practice registered nurse prescriptive authority or preceptorship letter must:
- Be on agency letterhead
- Indicate the name(s) and license number(s) of the licensed supervisor (see above) who is responsible for assuring direct supervision of the graduate permit holder to:
  - Practice and/or
  - Prescribe
